Volunteers
Volunteers are crucial to an organisation like Wholefoods as they are the main way we can keep our costs down. Low costs mean lower prices for excellent food. Despite being one of the few places on campus to not compromise on quality of ingredients, we are by far the cheapest and prevent many a student from becoming malnourished.
But it's not just about costs. An organisation run by volunteers is inspiring; in a world increasingly driven by competition and hierarchy, Wholefoods shows that cooperative organisation works. You'll never know if the person serving you is a
paid staff member or a volunteer, and it doesn't really matter because both are equally empowered to determine how we're run. few places on campus to not compromise on quality of ingredients, we are by far the cheapest and prevent many a student from becoming malnourished.
So what motivates people to volunteer?
Many reasons! But just to name a few...
Skill sharing: Wholefoods is a place you can learn stuff that’s good for your resumé, like food safety, customer service and coffee making.
Community: Meeting people, making friends – warm fuzzies are all part of the Wholefoods community!
Friendly customers: Wholefoods customers are reported to be the nicest and most understanding customers you’ll ever serve.
Free meal: Every hour of volunteering gives you a meal ticket worth a main meal.
Beat stress: Volunteering is good for the soul.
